Dr. Ananda Mallawathantri
Country Representative, International Union for Conservation of Nature, Sri Lanka
Dr. Ananda Mallawatantri is the Country Representative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Sri Lanka. He has over 30 years of experience in project management, research, consulting, industrial processes and university-level teaching. Before joining IUCN, he served as the Assistant Country Director for Environment Sustainability and Disaster Resilience at the UNDP Sri Lanka and as the Senior Advisor and Director for Energy and Environment at USAID for Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Dr. Mallawatantri’s contribution to international development field during his 15-years of service include policy formulation, strategic planning, technology adoption, project management, consulting, research and university teaching.
Dr. Mallawatantri holds a BSc in Chemistry and a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo. He received his Doctorate in Soil Physics in 1993, and a Masters in Environmental Science in 1991 from the Washington State University, USA as a Junior Fulbright Fellow.
