Deputy Director, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, Sri Lanka
Mr. George Cooke has been the Deputy Director at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) since January 2018. Prior to his appointment, he was a Research Associate at BCIS engaging in research on foreign policy, diplomacy, regionalism and integration.
A diplomat by profession, having joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2007, he has served in the Public Communications Division, the Bureau of the Foreign Minister, and the East Asia and Pacific Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. In addition to an overseas posting at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris, he also served as the First Secretary for the Permanent Delegation of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
He is also a lecturer at BCIS and the University of Colombo, and is a Visiting Fellow for the Ubon Ratchathini University, Thailand. He is an alumnus of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations (Clingendael) and a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Colombo.
