Deputy National Security Advisor, Government of India
Mr. Pankaj Saran was appointed Deputy National Security Advisor on 29 May 2018. He has had a long career in the Indian Foreign Service, having served as India’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation from January, 2016, after working as the High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He served twice in the Prime Minister’s Office as Director from 1995-1999 and then as the Joint Secretary from 2007-2012.
From 1999 to 2002, he worked as the Counsellor (Political and Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Cairo. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as a First Secretary in India’s Mission in Washington. Between 2002 and 2005, he served in Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Geneva.
