Prof. Mohan Munasinghe
Founder Chairman, Munasinghe Institute for Development
Prof. Mohan Munasinghe is the Founder Chairman of the Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND), Colombo and shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace as Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4). He is also Chairman of the Presidential Expert Committee on Sustainable Sri Lanka Vision and Strategic Plan and a Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China.
Formerly, he served as Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, Advisor to the United States President’s Council on Environmental Quality, and Senior Advisor/Manager of the World Bank. He has earned postgraduate degrees in Engineering, Physics and Development Economics from Cambridge University (UK), MIT (USA), and McGill and Concordia Universities (Canada), as well as several honorary doctorates (honoris causa).
He is a leading expert on sustainable development, climate change, energy and environment with worldwide field experience in disaster management, economics, environment, telecommunications, transport, urban infrastructure, and water resource projects. He has won many international prizes and authored over 100 books and 350 papers. He is a Fellow of several international Academies of Science, and an editorial board member of over a dozen journals.
He has represented Sri Lanka (Juniors) in tennis and won Sri Lanka national titles. His interests include swimming, windsurfing, chess, bridge, astronomy, saxophone, tai-chi and meditation.
