Director-General, Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of China
Yi Xianliang is the Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. Prior to this, he was China’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka between 2015 and 2017. Mr. Yi is a senior Chinese diplomat and an expert on international law. He joined China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991 and has held senior positions in the Departments of Treaty and Law and Boundary and Ocean Affairs. He has twice been posted to the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He has also led the Chinese delegations in multilateral and bilateral meetings and negotiations involving affairs of ocean, fishery, polar region, climate change, tobacco control, environment and sustainable development. He has published academic works and textbooks on environmental law and other subjects, as well as more than 50 featured articles on various academic periodicals. Mr. Xianliang received a Bachelor’s degree from Southwest University of Politics and Law and a Master’s from the China University of Political Science and Law.
